Alaska: DAY 6

Day 6. Keralyn woke up at 6am to go work out, this means that I too woke up at 6am to roll over. Keralyn is getting much better at working the lights in our cabin and this helps me in the early morning. We decided to eat breakfast in one of the diners this morning. I had a delicious omelet with some sausage and 2 waffles. After breakfast we headed down to a staging area where we were getting tickets for a boat ride from the ship into Sitka. We had just got out tickets and sat down to wait when nature came a calling for Keralyn. She stepped out of the room and about 10 seconds later they called our group. To make a short story shorter, we were the last ones on the boat. Sitka was a fun little town. A couple of the people we are on the cruise with had connections here and we had a private tour of the town and the history. The only problem was that there was 8 of us so Mary (the connection) had to get a larger vehicle. She procured a van from a local church and an older retired couple to drive it. From what I can tell she was in a little bit of a bind trying to find the vehicle so she when to a senior citizen free donut event and picked up the retired people who have access to a van and got them to drive us around. The van was a 13  person van, Now I get motion sick fast and I was placed in the very back. So, I promptly took an anti-nausea pill, but it did not seem to help all that much. I did however lie to the drive when he stated, “see, you didn’t even get sick one time.” I told him “nope” I guess it really was not a lie because I really did not get sick once, I got sick multiple times, but in all it was a blast. We pursued some of the local shops and picked up some jackets as souvenirs. I have a hard time buying things for myself while on vacation, but Keralyn talked me into buying a jacket. We found a good jacket for a good price, the only bad thing is that the zipper is on the left side. Now, I have always been under the assumption that the zipper on the left was a woman’s coat, like how a button up shirt has the buttons on the opposite side from what a man’s shirt would be.  Keralyn and I have been debating this all afternoon and Dr. Soucie is now making fun of me for buying a woman’s jacket. If any one could be our marriage ref and settle this little dispute this would be great. We had lunch at a local diner that was fabulous; we have never had such good corndogs and hamburgers. Now, you might be thinking why are they eating that stuff, why not salmon, crab, or the lobster? Well, we don’t really know. We arrived back on the ship at about 4:30pm, we went to out cabin and fell fast asleep for about 2 hours, when we woke up the ship was rocking again. I took a deep breath then got all gussied up for a second formal night. We had our pictures taken, and then went to dinner. The ship goes all out for formal nights. Every one is in their best attire, photographers are out in full force, and the service is the best. We dined with our usual part, consisting of 8 in all. I had the surf-n-turf, which was an 8oz steak and lobster tail, and Keralyn had a salad with a grilled salmon steak. I wish I was still eating. I am glad that I am not the only one in the group gets motion sick, So I fit right in with the ladies.  After dinner we went to the 10pm entertainment, a magician. It was a good show and the magician was more of a comedian than anything. After the show we noticed that the rough ride had slowed down and every one was feeling much better.

  1. Tabitha, a professional seamstress, says that ladies clothing was originally made to better suit those who dressed them. That accounts for the zippers and buttons being opposite men's clothing.
