Today was spent mostly in the ocean. I had the rest of my infectious disease conference today. We finished up with the conference at about 3pm. We were scheduled to port in Victoria, British Columbia at 6pm. We all met on shore and set out to see the great city o Victoria. Right of the boat you end up being in a herd of people all hailing taxis and getting on tour busses. Two of our party went to see the Butchart gardens, we would have loved to go but it was way too expensive for our blood. Six of us decided to go se what we could. We whistled for a cab and when it came near, we saw it had “fresh” on the plates and dice on the mirror… just kidding I was just caught up singing the “fresh Prince of Bellaire” song. The can was a yellow taxi. You can get anywhere in the city for $8.50 so we went to the other side of the bay. There was the parliament building; some really cool cathedrals and hotels. We walked down by the wharf and say some street performers, Some were dressed up and painted all white or bronze like statues and then would move all of the sudden and scary people. There was even Darth Vader playing the violin. I guess the city has an ordinance that if you are a street performer for money you have to have a permit. This helps the city not look trashy or like there is a lot of beggars. We came back to the ship and got our nightly ice cream cones and then commenced with the arduous task of packing. We disembark in Seattle tomorrow at 8am. So I guess we will miss church. We will need to get a cab to get us back to the van so we can drive the 14 hours straight home. Calling for a cab is much better than standing out on the curb whistling for one and even when I hike up my pant leg I don’t attract the attention I am trying to get. Well one more day and it is back to the grindstone.
